Press Release
Quick and Easy Data Transfer between Delta Motion Controllers and Siemens PLCs
November 30, 2009 – Battle Ground, WA – Delta Computer Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial automation and motion control products, is pleased to announce release of Delta Motion Control Protocol (DMCP) for connecting Delta motion controllers to Siemens S7 PLCs. By using DMCP over Ethernet, communication is made both easier and faster.
DMCP Function Blocks use the S7 Ethernet t- blocks. One is for reading and one is for writing using 32 bit aligned data programming techniques that allow for more efficient data transfer. An Ethernet based example program exists on the Delta ftp site and can be obtained upon request. This example documents communication between a Siemens S7 31x-2 PN/DP and Delta RMC75 or RMC150 single and multi- axis closed loop motion controllers used in precision closed loop applications.
While Delta has long offered PROFIBUS DP, the specific advantage of Ethernet DMCP function blocks compared to PROFIBUS DP is data transfer time. For instance, data can be transferred at one time in an application that needs to read 256 registers from the RMC’s indirect data map with just one read or fill up the RMC variable table with just one write. Another advantage is cost savings since customers using may not need to buy either a Siemens or Delta PROFIBUS DP module to communicate with the multi-axis RMC150 motion controller.
"In more complex applications as in the forest products industry, using DMCP has an efficiency benefit by delivering easier spline downloads or curve data transfers." stated Peter Nachtwey, Delta’s President. ’The value objectives of the DMCP option are to make communication better, faster and more economical for our customers.’ Nachtwey added.
The high performance motion control products that Delta designs, manufactures and markets are used worldwide in hydraulic, pneumatic and electric closed-loop control for single & multi-axis applications in energy, plastics, entertainment, testing, aerospace, metals & forest products.
