New Delta RMC-Stepper Motion Module Anounced; Controls Stepper Motors With or Without Quadrature Encoder Feedback

Today, Delta Computer Systems, Inc., Vancouver, WA introduced their newest motion controller in the highly versatile and precise RMC Family, the RMC-Stepper.

Delta spokesman Herb Johanson said the stepper interface module " allows control of stepper motors with or without quadrature encoder feedback. With encoder feedback the controller will automatically correct for gearing backlash or motor slip. Further, the controller provides position and speed control, synchronized moves, a teach mode, along with gearing and splines for rotary and linear axes.

Johanson added that "various transducer interfaces can be combined within the same controller, giving maximum operational flexibility. Transducer combinations include quadrature with stepper output, quadrature with analog output, Magnetostrictive Displacement Transducer (MDT's), analog transducers, and Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) transducers. This stepper motor interface controller is available with two, four, six, and eight axes in a single module."

The controller communicates via open fieldbus systems -- with a choice of communications that includes Ethernet, PROFIBUS, Modbus Plus, and Discrete I/O.

Industrial automation applications include:

Included with each Delta RMC-Stepper motion controller is the company's unique monitor software: the RMCWin for Windows®, which provides fast set-up and precision tuning with cost savings results.

RMCWin also provides troubleshooting and diagnostic information as well as permitting users to change control parameters from a keyboard. A graphic display of the last profile information, with a list of the most recent commands executed by the controller, greatly assists setup and process control.
