New Delta RMC-Ethernet Motion Module Provides Motion Control for Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley's ControlLogix PLC
Delta Computer Systems, Inc. of Vancouver, WA today announced direct connectivity to the state-of-the-art ControlLogix PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), via Delta's new Ethernet RMC motion controller.
Delta's new high performance, highly accurate motion controller, with its Ethernet fieldbus communications supporting the applications protocols of the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC, will provide solutions for industry's automation control needs in applications using hydraulic, pneumatic, or servo motor control.
Applications for the newly available and industry-leading combination of the ControlLogix PLC and Delta's RMC-Ethernet motion controller, where automation solutions require precise product or machine positioning, include:
- injection, RIM, and blow molding in plastics and rubber industries
- pinch roller positioning in steel rolling mills
- product or machine positioning in tube forging operations
- laser and saw positioning for edgers, hydraulic actuators, headrigs, veneer lathes, flying-cutoff saws, and motion control for other forest product machinery
- cyclic testing
- mechanical animation
- product palletizing and stacking
The ControlLogix PLC gains Delta's new RMC motion controller connectivity via the Delta module's Ethernet/IP. Ethernet, once reserved for office local area networks, has rapidly become an important dedicated industrial network. The Delta RMC-Ethernet module connects the high-performance Delta RMC motion controller into the network through its TCP/IP protocol stack along with a variety of application protocols. Data transfer is 10Mbaud.
Included with each Delta RMC-Ethernet motion controller is the company's unique monitor software: the RMCWin for Windows, which provides fast set-up and precision tuning with cost savings results.
RMCWin also provides troubleshooting and diagnostic information as well along with calculating scale and direction parameters. The software also allows access to auto-tuning functions and permits users to change control parameters from a keyboard. A graphic display of the most current motion profile information with a list of the most recent commands executed by the module greatly assists setup and process control.
